In a nutshell I told the audience to double what ever they did marketing wise last year. Then I qualified that and explained; this didn¹t mean spending twice as much. It means twice as much effort. Very focused effort. Laser beam guided right to the heart of the matter effort.

So here are a few of the highlights from that speech:

  •  Get Market Knowledge
  • Internal and External, after all knowledge is power and in this economy you need power.
  • Shop yourself. Find out how your employees treat you or a close friend when they don¹t know it¹s you who¹s watching. If you find a problem fix it right now.
  • Shop your competition. Know what they do well and know what they don¹t do so well. Find the strengths and Weakness of what they do. Get intimate with them and do everything you can to perform better than their weaknesses.
  •  Interview current guests to your store, get to know them. Look at your top customer list and analyze them, then do what you can to find more just like them and do it now.
  • Look for opportunities to up sell and cross sell your current guests
  • Find a Niche and then get very, very good at it.

Think I¹m full of hooey? Take a moment to google these words ³founded in² or ³started in² or ³established in² and add a four letter year between 1920 and 1939 to the end of any of these statements and look at the businesses you find. You¹ll see in a short time who took a chance and who¹s still around today. Congratulations, you have a head start, your already established so all you have to do is adjust the marketing your doing and you too will see your business thrive in this economic time.
